June’s eyes are smiling after Irish lottery win
A WITTON-le-Wear woman plans to buy a shower for her husband after founding out she won the lottery, six months after she won the lottery.
June Astbury correctly chose all three numbers in the Irish Lottery in January but only found out last week when she made her weekly trip to her bookmakers.
The grandmother of three was told she had won £1,152 by staff at Ladbrokes in Crook after she used her Ladbrokes card to buy another ticket.
Mrs Astbury said she and her husband Brian enter the Irish lottery every week but had forgotten to check their winning ticket as he had been admitted to hospital for knee surgery at the same time.
She said: “I was amazed to be told I’d won. I won the Irish lottery two years ago and Brian’s also won it but I think this Is the most we’ve won.
“I got the ticket for January 13 but Brian was in hospital the next day so we never got round to checking it. It’s a fantastic system they must have if it managed to find me.
“The girls in Ladbrokes seemed really happy for us. They’re always nice and smiley in there so we had a good laugh with them after we won.”
Mrs Astbury said she will use the money to buy an upstairs shower for her and her husband. The pair moved to Howden-le-Wear from Southampton 33 years ago after Mr Astbury’s previous employer was bought out by Marshall Richards Factory in Crook. They moved to Witton-le-Wear seven years later.
