Clubbers go alcohol free
MORE than 200 teenagers from across County Durham danced the night away at a Bishop Auckland club this week.
The alcohol-free party at the Q Club was organised for teens aged between 14 and 17-years-old by XS alcohol intervention worker Emily Pearson.
Despite some over excited flailing of glow sticks the night passed without incident and Emily said she was really pleased with how happy the young clubbers had seemed to be.
She said: “The night was a great success, Raj Devgan the owner of the Q Club, and the police were very pleased with the organisation of the event as it went without any problems. More importantly the young people all had a great time, I have even been receiving texts from them asking when the next one is going to be.
“The aim was to show these young people that they can have fun in night club environments without having to drink alcohol and take drugs.
“St John Ambulance first aiders were in attendance but thankfully were not needed. Two CASH Nurses attended and gave out info about sexual health, CATS workers also helped out supervising the young people and not forgetting the XS workers who gave out info to the young people to raise awareness for alcohol awareness week.”
The event was funded by local police, the Drug And Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) and the Bishop Auckland Childrens Board.
Dance and rave music was played by DJs System G, Nitro, B2B, Frostie and OB.
MCs Scotty G, Ace and Lyric also performed during the two-hour event.
