Club will reopen with an X factor
A BUSINESSMAN, his wife and brother will open a new club in Tow Law next week.
Michael Urwin, 35, bought the old Working Men’s Club on High Street in June along with wife Emma, 29, and brother Tony, 40, since when it has undergone a total refurbishment.
The club, which had been closed for three months before the Urwin’s took control, will reopen as Club X on Saturday October 31.
Emma, who will become the manager of the new club, said it will offer something a bit different to what is already available in the hill-top town and should have something for everyone.
She said: “We’ve basically stripped the building down and started again. Downstairs will be a new look bar area and, due to popular demand by old members, we will reinstall a snooker table in the back.
“We’ve built all new toilets including one with disabled access and created a kitchen so we can start serving meals, especially Sunday lunches.
“Upstairs there is a function room which can house 150 people.
“We’ve already got a variety of acts booked every week until Christmas including things like a psychic.
“We want to appeal to everyone and every month we’re going to have different music nights and live acts. The room will also be available for private hire.”
The trio say growing up in Tow Law has given them an insight into what will work.
Emma said: “When we got the building we weren’t quite sure what to do with it. We even thought about flats but we decided we would provide something which we believe isn’t here already. There will always be plenty of things going on and we hope to bring people in from outside the area as well as locals.”
The club’s opening will be a Halloween Fancy dress party and on Sunday, November 1, they will hold a children’s Halloween party from 2pm. Entertainment includes a magician and there will be a fancy dress competition.
