Budding Egg-atha Christies crack Humpty murder case

POLICE were called to Wolsingham Primary School this week after a popular literary character was murdered in the playground.

Students became sleuths following the discovery of Humpty Dumpty’s scattered remains and, with the help of Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Stephen Urch, investigated the grizzly crime scene.

The youngsters then had to say who dunnit with the top suspects being Little Bo-Peep, a Big Bad Wolf and Jack and Jill not to mention acting headteacher Alison Johnson.

Ms Johnson said: “They even thought I had done it although I was talking to a full school assembly at the time the body was found and had no motive.”

The investigation was the main part of the school’s celebration of National Children’s Book Week. After looking around the crime scene, the children had to write debates on who they thought had performed the dastardly deed based on the evidence. The Big Bad Wolf was found with egg shell on his paws while Jack and Jill were carrying bacon in their bag. Little Bo Peep’s crutch was also found at the scene.

Three pupils from Wolsingham community College played the parts of the suspected characters.
Ms Johnson said: “It has been an exciting few days and the children have really got involved with the investigating.

“The aim is to encourage them to read and raise the profile of writing.”

The Mercury can exclusively reveal that the culprit was Little Bo Peep. Ms Johnson said: “The Big Bad Wolf had shell on his paws because he was trying to put Humpty back together while Jack and Jill were carrying bacon for their breakfast but they were allergic to egg.

“Little Bo Peep couldn’t find her sheep and asked Humpty to spot them from his place on the wall but he refused.
“She got angry and prodded him with her staff but he grabbed it and fell to his death.
“That is it in a nut shell, or should that be egg shell?”
