Two grand reasons for carnival

THE Crook Carnival Committee received £2,000 from Wear Valley District Council recently. (may 30 edition)

The committee accepted the cheque from Councillor Geoff Mowbray and will use the money to fund this year’s (2008) carnival on July 5 and ensure the continuation of the annual event.

Cllr Mowbray said: “I fully support the carnival and will do anything I can to help in my role as district councillor. The carnival is very important to Crook and gives the town a sense of well-being on a par with the Christmas light display.”

The money was allocated from section 106 which requires developers to provide funding for local play areas and activities.
