Heartless shop burglars take charity cash
THIEVES stole cash and charity boxes from a Wear Valley fish and chip shop this week.Parmjeet Khaur has only owned Jill’s fish and chip bar on Hope Street in Crook for a week but is already picking up the pieces after thieves broke in through the back door and took more than £50 from the tills and a bag belonging to a member of staff. They also took the charity boxes from the counter.
Parmjeet said: “I am scared now that every time I come in the morning something else will have happened. We have changed all the locks and will get cameras put up as soon as possible.
“The customers have been very friendly but now I am always worrying. I have only been here a week and am not happy at the moment. The police have been very good though.” The flat above the chip shop has previously been targeted, with thieves caught stealing a TV from the premises only a few months ago. Despite this, Police insist the area is not a hot spot.
Inspector Tony Avery said: “We are investigating this incident but the area is not a hot spot.”
