Relief as sadist pervert jailed
NEIGHBOURS of a convicted paedophile who may have contacted other perverts through a Government database he set up have expressed their relief at his imprisonment this week.Frosterley pervert Vincent Barron was jailed last Friday for 33 months after pleading guilty to 21 counts of distributing indecent images of children, but his neighbours worry he may be back sooner than they think, especially as a previous sentence was successfully appealed against.
One man said: “He was jailed for 14 months last January for distributing these horrific images but was back within three. The fact Lisa, his wife, has stayed here would suggest they have no intention of moving. “There is a sense of relief that he is gone, but no sentence will ever be enough for a man like him.”
Barron, 50, was hired by the Home Office to set up ViSOR, a £10m database containing 50,000 of the most dangerous offenders.
One neighbour said: “Can you believe it? He was supposed to be tracking down these disgusting people and yet he was one of them all along. It makes you worry that he got away with it for so long.”
Police found 3,800 images of child abuse on Barron’s home computer including two in the most serious category involving sadism or bestiality, which he had distributed to other paedophiles around the country.
Investigators also found that there were only 22 days in 2005 which had not seen Barron download child porn, and came across internet chat rooms where he swapped graphic and sadistic fantasies with other like minded perverts. Neighbours described Barron as “arrogant, aloof and intimidating”, and say he has made their estate an undesirable place to live.
One woman said: “Who wants to live next to a paedophile? This is a family estate filled with children all of whom are very happy that he has gone, but are also worried about when he will come back. “It’s very difficult to know what to tell a child because you don’t want to scare them and ruin their childhood, but you also need them to be aware of this hideous man and his wife. This is a great place for children to play and this summer will be much better without his dark presence.”
In February, Barron received retrospective planning permission for a fence after claims that trees in his garden were vandalised. One neighbour said: “No-one has done anything to his property even though I’m sure many people have been tempted. He is deliberately trying to upset his neighbours with this fence.
This is certainly not an unsafe place for him to live. “He is very arrogant and aloof, and if he sees neighbours out in their back garden he will turn his music up very loud until they go back inside. He also makes a lot of noise emptying his bins at 1am.
“He has made no attempts to hide away, and obviously feels no guilt at all. It is not because he is ashamed that we don’t see him and Lisa in the streets, but because he is a coward. “He has shown no remorse for his actions and seems to be goading people into retaliating so he can justify his actions.
“He is a very intimidating presence and will wave at the children and stare out the adults even making rude gestures at people as he drives by them.”
