Dad pops question at Christening

A WEAR Valley father proposed to his girlfriend just moments after their baby was Christened.

One-year-old Billie Jordan-Deluce was Christened at Bridge Street Methodist Church in Howden-le-Wear last Sunday, and following the ceremony her father Craig Deluce, 21, popped the question to her mother Tracey Jordan. Tracey, 31, said: “I nearly fell through the floor when he asked. I said yes as soon as I stopped crying.” Billie was named after Tracey’s brother who died 10 years ago aged 23.

Tracey said: “Billy would have doted on his niece, and we all still miss him today. I wanted to keep the family name going and Craig says he’ happy with it. “My brother, father and granddad are all called Billy Jordan so it’s great my daughter can carry the tradition on.”

Tracey had originally hoped to Christen Billie this Sunday, the anniversary of her brother’s death, but due to the bank holiday had to shift the date. Tracey said: “It’s not too bad because she was actually due on May 18 so that date still means something.

“I want to thank the minister for a fantastic service and the Green Tree pub for putting on a great celebration.”

The trio were joined by 90 friends and family, including Tracey’s father Billy who said: “I am very happy for Tracey and Craig and this has just made today perfect.” The happy couple are now planning a date for the wedding.
