30-year-old moustache-shaved off for-poorly child
A WILLINGTON landlord shaved off a 30-year-old moustache on Saturday to raise money for a four-year-old leukemia patient.Dave Brunskill was one of several men brave enough to lose their hair to raise money for Megan Simpson, who was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia last year. Dave said: “I’m very fond of my tache, and have become quite attached to it
“It’s all for a good cause though, and once it’s off I’ll keep it in an attaché case.” Megan also received money, clothing and a fun day out courtesy of Durham City Scuba club. Divers Blair Munro and Simon Herbert were on hand to present a cheque for £300 plus vouchers for a day of swimming and diving fun in Durham.
Simon said: “Megan is an exceptionally brave girl, and when everyone at the club heard about her condition they all chipped in, especially Paul Smith who contributed a lot to her cause.” Megan’s mother Lisa Metcalfe said: “I just can’t believe how generous people are. I want to thank everyone who has given to us, especially Dave and Ann for letting us use their pub and all the donations they have given us.
“Half the money will go towards getting Megan a new playhouse while the rest of it will go to ward 16 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where Megan was treated.” Megan’s grandfather Brian said: “It’s amazing the way people rally around.
“A lot of the people that given to us don’t even know Megan but they give anyway. “This has been a very difficult time for the whole family, but the support we have had has been excellent.”
Willington businesses including Walton butchers, Tony Wilde’s butchers and Arthur Burnham’s fruit and vegetable donated money and prizes for the raffle, while the masons gave just under £100.
