Funding dries up for youth shelter work
PLANS to build a youth shelter in a Wear Valley town have had to be halted until funding can be found.Planning permission has been granted for the shelter at Glenholme youth centre in Crook, but Groundwork west Durham who will build the shelter say they are unable to continue until they receive funding for it.
Joanne Crumpling, project officer from Groundwork said: “While some funding has been secured for the meeting shelter further work is required before this improvement can be made. Once funding is secured the shelter would be installed next to the youth centre in view of the police station.
“Funding is also being sought to carry out the other improvements that received planning permission including further fencing works.” The plan to improve Glenholme Park was developed by Groundwork West Durham and Darlington, local councillors, community organisations and Wear Valley District Council, and the foundation work will be completed by the end of May.
Joanne said: “The initial works will involve replacement of fencing to transform the area into a multi use space as it will include the installation of goals and basket ball hoops. The existing tennis provision will also be retained.. Fencing around the skate park will also be replaced. CCTV cameras will be installed in the park.”
