Councillor taking strides to fund fight against cancer
A WEAR Valley town councillor is going on the run in July and is appealing for Willington women to join her.Becky Brunskill from Willington will take part in the Race for Life in memory of her father who passed away 14 years ago from cancer, and in celebration of her mother who has successfully battled the disease.
Becky will run 5km at Maiden Castle in Durham on July 6 and will be among thousands of other women aiming to raise as much as possible for Cancer Research UK.
Becky, who recently turned 20, insisted that instead of presents people should donate money to the charity and has raised more than £180 so far. She hopes to assemble a Willington team involving women from the community. Becky said: “Race for Life is open to women of all ages and fitness levels with all money raised going to Cancer Research in their work to fight cancer.
“I want to put together a team of Willington women to run or walk the race with me so that we can raise as much money as possible because Cancer Research is making such a difference to thousands of people every year. “I have two very good reasons for doing this and hope I can as many women involved as possible and raise a lot of money for this worthwhile cause.”
Any women from Willington interested in taking part with Becky can contact her on 07971706756 while anyone willing to sponsor Becky can visit the website www.raceforlife.org/beckybrunskill and donate online or send donations by post to 44 Cedar Crescent, Willington, Durham DL150DA
