Awards for officers who saved man from blaze

THREE Brave Crook Police officers who helped save a Willington man from a raging fire will be awarded certificates next Wednesday for their sterling efforts.
Acting Sergeant Tony Elliott, 31, and PCs William Crampsie, 30, and Niall Brown, 43, repeatedly entered the man¹s burning house on Birch Street, Willington, last April.
They searched again and again for the man until the heat and flames forced them to withdraw.
Then, when the fire crews arrived the officers were able to give them a detailed description of the internal layout of the house and the furniture.
This helped the firefighters locate the man in a ground floor bathroom and they managed to drag him clear.
The victim made a full recovery after being kept in hospital overnight, while the three officers were treated for the effects of smoke and even completed their shift.
Next Wednesday, April 11, the top trio will be presented with framed certificates from the Society for the Protection of Life from Fire.
