Ravers getting their party started right
BUDDING DJs and event organisers met on Tuesday night to prepare for Crook¹s first Rave.Young members from Glenholme Youth Project, 4 Clocks, and Glenholme Theatre club met to make sure everything is set to run smoothly on the night with lighting, sound checks and a general dress rehearsal.
The rave will be held at Glenholme Youth Club on April 3 from 7.15pm until 9.30pm and has been organised by a team of six young people through the 4 Clocks Youth project in Bishop Auckland.
Stuart Cross, 16, from Billy Row, and David Koch, 15, from Bishop Auckland are two of the committee members who have put in a lot of time arranging the event and making sure it goes well.
Stuart Cross, who studies at Bishop Auckland College, said:
³There are six of us who¹ve been putting this together.
³Having a small group has made it easier but it would have been impossible if everyone had joined in.
³I¹ve been involved with the 4 Clocks for a couple of years on and off but this is the first time we¹ve tried something like this.
³I¹m not nervous just hoping that lots of people will turn up and it will go well so we can do it again.
David Koch, who goes to Bishop Barrington, said: ³It was our idea to do the night and the six of us have been getting together and planning it every week.
³It¹s happened quickly but we¹ve sorted out the flyers, designed the posters, and sold the tickets.² DJs and MCs on the night will include Matthew Lynn, Danny Christlow, Josh Barr, Blakey and Lewis.
Doug Hill, who has been involved with 4 Clocks since it started, said: ³It¹s organised chaos at the moment but by having the rehearsal we get the chance to sort out any problems now rather than on the night.² Lianne Oliver, youth worker with the 4 Clocks project in Bishop Auckland,
said: ³They started organising this two months ago and it¹s become a good way of getting the different youth clubs together and giving them the chance to mix and meet new people.² ³The young people who have set this up have been brilliant.
³Now they are putting together bids for funding for new equipment and are planning to take it further and work with other clubs to make this a regular event.
³They are incredibly ambitious and want to organise bigger shows in the future.
³A lot of the time, DJ-ing and MC-ing is just pushed under the carpet and not seen as a talent but it is and these people are really good at what they do.
³It¹s something they want to do that keeps them off the streets, and they get so much out of it.
Cliff Briton, who is centre manager at Glenholme Youth Club, said: ³The facilities are here if young people want to use them and this is the perfect example of that.
³Events like this give us a buzz too and I think it¹s fantastic that the young people have got this up and running in such a short time.² Entry is by ticket only. Tickets are on sale at 4 Clocks, in Bishop Auckland.
