Passing on the secrets of India
PUPILS from Stanhope Barrington Primary and Peases West Primary bought a taste of India to Wolsingham on Tuesday.Children from both schools performed several Indian dances in the Upper Hall at Wolsingham School and Community College.
Mrs Chamundeswari Pani, an Indian dance expert, has been teaching children from both schools for just a few sessions and everybody was impressed by their dancing skills.
Judith Stirk, who is the headteacher at Peases West, said: ³Everybody had a lovely night.
³This is a great way for them to learn about a culture and have good fun at the same time.
³We are now looking forward to the Ganesh festival in September and hope to have many more nights like this.
All of the children wore traditional Indian robes provided by Mrs Chamundeswari Pani.
Chloe Fairless, Sophie Charlton, Rosie Warren, Melanie Donnelly and Jenny Riley were representing Stanhope Barrington while Abigail Blenkinsopp, Fern Ross, Abbie-Rose Burton, Laura-May Johnson, Ellie Reed, Chantelle Sendel, Jordan Reed, and Jordan Lee represented Peases West.
The event was funded by Kalapremi UK, a charity which is working to support Indian culture.
Afterwards, parents and children enjoyed some traditional Indian food and the chance to discuss the upcoming Ganesh festival on September 15 at the Lamp Light Art centre in Stanley, Consett.
The same children will be dancing at this religious Hindu festival.
