Accolades beyond wildest dreams of well-travelled fim-makers
CROOK film-makers travelled to Teesside University on Wednesday to be commended for their award winning efforts. The 11-strong cast of Strange Dreams, which won an international award two weeks ago, travelled to the ceremony with film-maker Jane Crawford, who is the director of Daisy Arts.
Pupils from Hartside Primary school and St Cuthbert¹s in Crook, who form the Jack Drum Arts media group, were awarded certificates by Claire Jennings, a film producer who worked on Wallace and Gromit-Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
In early March, these children from the Jack Drum Arts media group travelled to Finland to take top honours at the Videotivoli Festival in Tampere for their film Strange Dreams.
The film was shot in St Catherine¹s Church, in Crook market place, and featured a guest appearance from the Reverend Fenton as a devil.
Film-makers Jane Crawford and Helen Ward guided the children through the film making process and travelled to Finland with Kelsey Taylor, Ben Thompson, Oliver Thompson and Sam Ward-Hardy.
Helen said: ³The trip to Finland was brilliant: not only did they collect their award but they attended a Sami workshop where they made simple musical instruments out of reindeer antlers and toes.² And their efforts were recognised again in the Royal Television Society ceremony.
Jane said: ³The children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were chuffed to bits to receive their certificates.² Children from Hartside Primary who won an award for their film The Princess and the Pendant, also attended the day which included lots of activities and the chance to meet other budding film-makers.
